I understand. I 0% approve of Israel in this year's competition (especially since Russia is banned, so Israel should also be, given their comparable military atrocities). I sent off more pro-Gaza pleas to Congress earlier today and I'll be hitting mute on Thursday when Israel's selection performs.
now that I think about it, it would actually be amazing if EVERYONE watched and just as Israel comes up, everyone changes the channel and a huge rating drop would be reported for this specific time.
the ogham lettering is nice, but like if you really want to make an impact, boycott - like who is actually going to see it on her face and even know what it means, it's so performative! The majority of Irish people with an interest in Eurovision have called for a boycott and loads of bars aren't airing it this years in protest.
Bambie is definitely in a tough spot. they signed a contract way before October 7th. they've been as outspoken as they possibly can, but withdrawing would mean having to pay penalties and possibly destroy their career just as it's really starting.
Oh I don't put all the responsibility of boycotting on Bambie Thug, RTE definitely are at fault too! But to say their career would be destroyed is a bit much, if anything, I think if ant artist had chosen to withdraw, it would have been a positive boost to them! Everything I've seen re: Bambie thug, the Uk entrant, and others in the last few days has been totally negative as they are continuing to participate...
I agree that I think it would be an overall positive boost with the public, but breaking such a high-profile contact would kill their chance of getting any industry support pretty much ever. not just label deals, but even booking venues could get very difficult for them. execs remember that kind of stuff and get very vindictive.
but also, I think it's really unfortunate that no one put their foot forward, because I think it would have led to a domino effect. but I guess it's really putting your neck out to be the first, in case you do the up being the only one.

Bambie has makeup on their face that spells out "ceasefire" which is very cool
