It's mostly corporate greed. Their CEO and other high-ranking employees and board members make a fortune. They could have lower prices if they wanted to, and so could all the other companies. Doesn't help that most companies are part of monopolies, either.

Covid saw soaring prices and when companies realized people would still pay (at the time), they never dropped the prices.

Omg one of the worst parts of working in retail was the higher ups constant insistence that “you have to beat LY!!” Like sometimes it’s ok to just stay consistent…at a certain point you simply can’t go any higher

I loved how they would raise the goal 30% more for an event based off the LY sales for that goal, knowing damn well that it was near fucking impossible to even reach that LY goal the year before.

Fuck retail. They made it so difficult on us. The store wouldn't have anything in stock and customers would want to order online instead of right there in the store. Customers demanding gifts because they saw it offered with an online purchase meanwhile our store wasn't getting gifts with purchase or gifts/titems that were supposed to be sent over from different companies. Apparently, now if you want to order something online in the store, you need a store credit card to do so or you need a gift card lmao what the fuck. With an almost 30% APR on that shit, fuck no.
