A lot of his reasons for why he likes these items come off as very "old man yells at cloud," but I still thought this video was noteworthy for three reasons ( Read more... )

#11 opening his mouth and proving he’s a POS, how this guy wasn’t canceled for dating a 17yr old when he was 38 I’ll never understand

No internet. People got away with a lot before social media. Some magazines had him and his girlfriend on the cover, but those were usually gossip rags very few people paid attention to. Unless you consumed entertainment media, you would probably never know.

I know this makes it only slightly worse (because how much of a difference does one year make when we’re talking above a grown ass man dating a teenager half his age?), but he was 39 when he met her.

No you’re right that is worse! Him picking her up from school is what made me gag, something about that visual, I know it was high school but it just evokes images of him handing her a juice box and a little snack just 🤢

The fact that he had no qualms about (1) continuing to date her after he found out she was still in high school (2) picking her up from said high school aka not even trying to hide it is just appalling. He probably looked like a dad picking up his daughter 🤮

I remember I was in like, 9th grade when this happened and it was like on Entertainment Tonight, no outrage, no one cared and I remember thinking to myself, "this is weird" but like no one took issue with this very inappropriate relationship?!

He got roasted in the tabs at the time. Star Magazine in particular made a point of always saying "Shoshanna (whom he met in the middle of Central Park when she was 17)" in every article they wrote about him and made him seem like he was trolling on playgrounds for young girls like a prvert. It got to the point where her parents contacted the tabs and were like "Jerry's a fine man and we approve" and they let up for a while, but when they broke up the general consensus was he was a dirty old ass man who took advantage and she grew up and was over him. I would say this period was around the time people's mindsets started switching from this sort of thing being acceptable to being grossed out by this sort of thing; the only difference was people were gossiping around the water cooler at work about it instead of having a huge audience/finding likeminded people online to discuss it.

I distinctly remember him generally being thought of as weird and gross for this in the mid-late 90s.
