Also like, I know Babs is old and in show business etc etc but damn I wish, as a society, we would stop thinking it's acceptable to comment on someone's weight or body. Doesn't matter if it's intended to be positive (like "you look great! did you lose weight?), it can still really mess with people. By people I mean me. I know I'm overly sensitive to this because of my own issues with weight/food/body image but like idkkkkkkkkk can we just not comment on people's bodies? Is that too much to ask?
God yes, what if they’ve lost weight because they are sick? You don’t know so don’t comment. People are so intrusive.
I don’t have food issues (at least I don’t think I do), but one of my number one pet hates is people commenting on what I am eating, even the most benign “Ooh, that looks/smells good!” kind of way. I literally stopped bringing food that needed heating up for lunch at the office because every single time I’d be in the tea room microwaving it, someone would comment on it. Now I sit at my desk and eat sandwiches for lunch, lol.
Okay, reading that back maybe I do have food issues 😳

This! Last year my mental health deteriorated badly that I ended up losing 12 kg (26 pounds) in 6-8 months and my mum and aunty would say I looked great (my mum constantly makes comments about my weight and what I eat). Then while I was in hospital (voluntary- I was in for treatment for my anxiety) I saw a dietitian because the doctor was concerned with the amount of weight I had lost in a short time. She explained how this wasn’t healthy and that I would have actually lost muscle not fat. Now I’m better mentally and I’ve put back on the weight my mum told me that I have undone the hard work I did. I got mad at her and said I lost 12 kg because I had severe anxiety and stopped eating and that this wasn’t going to be sustainable.
It’s interesting that people complimenting your food puts you off. For me my mum judges my eating by saying in a snide way “REALLY?” whenever she disapproves of my food choices.
I’m sorry your mum is like that with you, that must be hard to deal with. I hope you have coping strategies to deal with it.
I don’t know why it bugs me so much even when people say nice things about my food. I think I just like to not be noticed or draw attention to myself at all.
