Two pro-Palestine protesters were removed from American comedian Chelsea Handler’s show on Friday.
One of the protesters was heard shouting, “Children are dying with our tax dollars.”

Does anyone have a Columbia summary? I get more confused the more I try to read about it.

Same, and I’m not listening to propaganda that the protestors are calling for another attack on Israel/support hamas (I know that sentiment is out there but that’s not the reason for the protesting)

you can basically think of it as students protesting the viet war. they are protesting against the genocide of palestinians and one of the zionist columbia professors is calling for another kent state. and well, as usual, student protest movements tend to be on the right side of history.

My layperson understanding is this:

The university has investments and some of the investments are for defense contractors or weapons manufacturers meaning those investments are indirectly used in Palestine against people. Killing tens of thousands and also starving millions. (Famine is a weapon of war)

It’s not just Columbia. Yale and MIT do too and that’s why students are supporting the Columbia university protestors.

Besides this, the university staff (i.e. professors) have also walked out en masse after seeing the abhorrent treatment of the students at Columbia by the administration. Admin called NYPD to come (NYPD is super corrupt btw) and they arrested 108 people for protesting.

Americans have the right to protest/gather for protesting and to call out injustice. It’s in the constitution iirc. (But I am not American so if it’s not First Amendment please do correct me!!!)

Funny how the people harping about freedom of speech all the time are calling for their arrest. I guess the only argument I can see for them saying their actions aren't covered is because technically Columbia is a private.

I remember over a decade ago there was always a guy on my campus yelling at us that we were all going to hell. That man was never arrested.

I am confused by the claims of "threats" and them moving to "hybrid" classes. Like who is claiming to be threatened and how are they being threatened?

My guess is that the Zionists are using the “antisemitism” and “Jewish students” as a tool to claim all kinds of things.

The problem is that if there is a real issue, then that won’t be reported properly. I feel terrible for those affected students.

I’m pretty sure I’ve seen someone point out that their protest was staged in an area designated for protests and they were well out of the way of literally everyone and everything, and that the woman who decided to get law enforcement involved (the same woman who had to answer for allegations of Columbia being antisemitic at some hearing) consulted the board who were overwhelming against involving the cops, and she did it anyway

honestly fuck the media and fuck people who complain about protestors in general. I have sat in traffic in a standstill for an hour when my home is only 20mins from work due to protests - the point of protests IS to disrupt and make people pay attention, not be out of the way and easily ignored. Plus it is a pillar of democracy, something that governments all over are gleefully eroding. I will NEVER complain about organised protests.

My local news just showed one guy claiming he was in the IDF and that people protesting are saying he and his family should be deported (and I think he said killed too) lol that was all they showed. No POV from the people protesting.

It’s not just Columbia. Yale and MIT do too and that’s why students are supporting the Columbia university protestors.

NYU, UC Berkeley, Cal Poly Humboldt, Emerson, UMichigan, and Tufts have joined them.

This level of inter-campus solidarity hasn't been seen since the anti-apartheid movement in the '80s tbh. I wish we'd had the same level of coordination in the Noughties when we were protesting the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, but we weren't as savvy and had anti-terrorism laws and public opinion against us.

I can't speak to Columbia's interests in Israeli-backed/backing orgs, but I know this about the arrests:

- Columbia students were protesting in a designated student protest area on the campus
- The university sent a written request to NYPD to clear them out/deal with the situation
- The cops arrested like 100+ people
- Columbia suspended the students so that they could be then charged with trespassing on campus

My friend sent me a video from campus today and there is a huge line of NYPD up and down the sidewalk.
