Based on one of the greatest video game series of all time, Fallout is the story of haves and have-nots in a world in which there’s almost nothing left to have. 200 years after the apocalypse, the gentle denizens of luxury fallout shelters are forced to return to the irradiated hellscape their ancestors left behind - and are shocked to discover an ( Read more... )

Spoilers in my comment just in case!

I really enjoyed it! I liked that we stayed with the vault and discovered the secrets there. There's a lot of open threads so I hope we get than renewal announcement soon. I assume Moldaver was in a cryogenic facility in NV with the hint at the end. Also want to know what happened to Janey and Coop's ex wife.

I had to look away only once and it was Thaddeus's mangled foot lol. I feel so bad for him. The radio station was one of my favourite scenes though and Armison was the perfect wasteland creep.

One thing I thought was interesting about the 3 main characters is the whole idea of the wasteland making you a different animal. The Ghoul and Lucy are on opposite ends of the spectrum. Coop having known the old world, Lucy having only known the vault and the ideology of the old world. I saw a lot of people frustrated with Maximus and his decisions but I think it's because he's in the middle of that spectrum. He did have some safety growing up in the NCR but he also experienced what Coop did and went through that trauma. But it was still always the wasteland. I liked that exploration there! The actor for Maximus did a good job at conveying naivety and fragility with hidden ambition and... brutalism? He knows how to survive.

Sorry for my long thoughts on this show LOL! I thought it was fun!

Loved your long thoughts, keep them coming! Completely agree with your take on Maximus.

I also think the three characters represent different types of viewers - Coop for those with a ton of knowledge about the Fallout lore, Maximus for those who have dabbled in the games, and Lucy for those who know little to nothing about the Fallout world. I liked Maximus but the relationship between Coop and Lucy is the most interesting to me, I think Coop will help Lucy become more streetwise, while Lucy will help Coop regain his humanity (which you see in the flashbacks).

I think Coop's wife is in the cryovault and his daughter perished in the initial blast. You don't see ghoul children in the games from what I remember. I did think for a moment it might be so fun to have a ghoul horse, though.

The only things I have a quibble about are the anti-feral meds which don't exist in the games and I wish it was a little sillier, especially in the later episodes. The first episode was the right balance, but it bled out by the last.

I’m so used to thinking of Kyle MacLachlan as Coop, specifically in David Lynch’s voice, that I thought I missed some major plot points here lol it’s early
