Daniel talks about his Broadway show Merrily We Roll Along (he also recommends the documentary Best Worst Thing That Ever Could Have Happened about the original 1981 production of the show). He says his parents played Sondheim for him as a kid and now his son is already growing up with Sondheim songs due to his role in MWRA.

I think I'm crushing on him again. His post Potter career is fantastic because he's clearly doing things that he enjoys doing over something he'd have to do for money. He's an adorable pocket king.

I also sincerely wish there was a Broadway streaming service. So many people will never be able to make it to Broadway or the West End and I would ABSOLUTELY pay for a streaming service to see these musicals and plays. They released weekly plays/musicals at the beginning of the pandemic and I miss that.

I think you can stream some London theatre now but it tends to be plays rather than the big musicals.

There is a streaming service called BroadwayHD, and in the UK there is National Theatre at Home. Not sure if they are available outside of the UK.

Oh I didn't know about the UK one! Thank you!

There’s also The Metropolitan Opera OnDemand that’s really good (https://www.metopera.org/season/on-demand/learn-more/) and Kanopy has some stuff but, obviously it’s usually older performances.

We do get National Theatres Live in cinemas in Canada. That's how I got to see Andrew Scott's one-man Vanya and James McAvoy's Cyrano de Bergerac, which were both fantastic.

iirc he's hot in GoF and the Young Doctor show where he plays the young Jon Hamm?

In addition to the suggestions above, there are live performances of theater that are shown in movie theaters several times a year that range from musicals and plays to ballet and opera. I’ve seen several shows that I wouldn’t have been able to watch otherwise like Lea Salonga in Allegiance, the Bolshoi Ballet’s production of Swan Lake).

I got to see NTL's Frankenstein with Johnny Lee Miller and Benedict Cumberbatch this way! My friend and I did a double feature where they played both roles. Of course this was in the before times because I haven't been back to the theater since 2020.

Same. There hasn’t really been anything I’ve wanted to see enough to sit in a theater of unmasked people.l

I love that he's doing projects that he actually wants to unlike Oscar bait stuff or hey look at me! He's seems perfectly happy doing comedy, weird roles, stage and doesn't give a shit about stardom.

Granted, he has a shit ton of money that allows him to do that but I respect his low key choices and not trying to be A-list, etc. He's just doin' this thing.

He and Elijah Wood are basically set for life to do projects they want to do no matter how off the wall they are.
