It is genuinely starting to feel like some kind of mental issue with her. Like a sort of obsessive paranoia that’s just being amplified as time goes by. She seems to seize on any tweet as an opportunity to rehash her same tired arguments.

She sounds just like the far-right nutters who want to ban books that "cause gender confusion" and criminalize librarians who "distribute porn." (Some states are literally enacting such laws.) Like these people even give a shit about the safety of vulnerable young people.

On a related topic I read Maus after I found out it was banned because I wanted to see why. Got through the entire graphic novel and could find no reason. I look it up and it’s nothing to do with the Nazis or even elements of the holocaust and it being too intense subject matter for young kids. It’s because there’s like two frames where the characters are naked and you can see some distant anthropomorphic mouse peen. It was banned for nudity that appears in what must be less than 0.5% of the novel.

I just do not get the way the conservative brain works. It’s completely illogical.

Maus is so good it's one of the few books I kept from school reading. I don't even remember the mice peen??

It’s literally like a quarter of one page, if that. And it’s a shot where they’re naked and being sent into a gas chamber so it’s quite zoomed out. But apparently that was “sexually explicit”???

i saw a librarian say that it's not really about the books. it's about undermining libraries and schools. and it all made sense then. :(

I had the exact same experience. I specifically read the two Maus books because they were on banned book lists. I read the first one, didn't see anything objectionable, assumed it must be in the second book, finished that one, and was still confused as to where the ~offensive material was. I googled to find specific page numbers and even then I was like, that's it? Most of the complaints were about the mouse nudity. There were a small number that complained about the drawing of the mother's suicide because her breasts are visible.

ive looked up her history like i always do when i am utterly baffled by people and i really think she has obsessive problems and a lot of trauma. she had an absuive dad and displayed some issues in her youth with ocd and depression, combined with her sexual assault and delusions of grandeur and i think its really spiraled. but lady now is your time you could have all the therapy in the world. its not an excuse for her behaviour because a lot of it is good olf fashioned racism and misogyny and its a choice and shes not psychotic, but i do believe that brain is very broken.

I think she just has too much money, time and privilege.

Literally inventing boogeymen because she has nothing else going on in her life.

My father, who was a raging supporter of China's government but also a capitalist, never considered himself a Nazi but had extremely hateful opinions about Jews (the typical "they run the world, everything is their fault" etc), was perfectly mentally sane. I loved him but shitty hateful people are just that.

He literally threw away his entire career AND MARRIAGE over this, and he still thinks he's right. It is truly wild.

This is how most conservatives sound to me though. Months after the Bud Light Dylan issue, I had family members who literally obsessively talked about it all weekend, over and over and over again, including citing conspiracy theories about the beer making kids trans (???) and how people like Dylan get off on "chopping off genitals" and so do democrats and then somehow "illegal mexicans" also are involved???!?

(Family reunion combined with a funeral of a family member who was lovely and not like this. I will literally never be going again)

What is it with conservatives being obsessed with genitalia when it comes to trans people? If they came across somebody who was obsessed with a cis person’s genitals in the same way they’d be suspected of being a sex offender. It just underscores their lack of understanding of biological sex vs gender, and makes them seem weird AF.

They are OBSESSED with genitals. It isn't just a new thing for trans people either. Some of the same people, when I was younger, used to constantly talk about genitalia with gay people too. Like, referring to dick size, dicks, and anal sex with gay men or weird stuff about lesbians and vaginas. Like, I was a kid at this point and had to listen to it, yet that was A-Ok for some reason??! Conservatives are just like...obsessed with sex and genitals but get angry if you point that out because apparently its only "libs" and "gays" who are in their worldview, even if they are the ones who constantly talk about it??

One of my acquaintances got married right after the whole Bud Light drama and he and his wife has Bud Light at the reception. Neither is political (🙄, but at least they’re not active assholes) nor cares much about beer, so they just chose the cheapest shit.

I was just judging each guest that happily trotted over to the bar salivating for a beer and then refusing it when they saw the brand. There were only a handful, but it as a fun “spot the transphobe” game I played in my head.
