If you've been following Jojo Siwa's recent gay pop star career (you haven't), you won't be surprised to learn why her song sounds like it's from 2011. It's because it's from 2011.
JoJo claimed that she "wanted to start a new genre of music...called 'gay pop.'" However, her song isn't new at all. It was originally recorded by an artist named Brit Smith more than 13 years ago. When the song failed to take off, it was offered to Miley Cyrus, who (wisely) passed. It finally landed in the lap of JoJo, which maybe explains why her current evolution is so dated.
However, she has been talking about her "songwriting" skills and "writing" different versions of the song. Social media is absolutely going in on her, lol.
