it sends such a toxic message that two young men can't be friends and touch each other (let alone be affectionate) without it having to mean something sexual. its sad that the concept of two men just being comfortable with each other or tender towards one another is seen as so unacceptable that people would rather create full on conspiracy theories to explain it.

Ummmmmm the same thing would've happened if they were a guy and a girl. In fact it does happen all the time with cast mates (hello Robsten???) so let's not make this about what it isn't.

They stopped though? So long ago I don't even remember when and the stans have only gone on to build a whole ass family for them.

Anyway there are other male and female examples of this. Lunatics will latch onto any ships they think are secretly real, because it's not the gender of the involved parties that matter but the conspiracy.

that's still not the same as what larries did to the friendship between harry and louis lol

the fact that it quite literally ruined their relationship is fucking sad

yeah that is quite sad. At one point they definitely were best friends. I think their relationship likely would have naturally fizzled out anyways because they seem so different, but the Larries definitely expedited the process. I also feel like Louis probably resents Harry since it seems as though he is always the one denying it, and Harry stays mum.

yeah oddly enough, Larries are deeply homophobic in a way. they are fetishizers too, and I've noticed many are straight women, which makes it extra odd.

these segments of fandoms (the conspiracy theorists not the “idk they might’ve fooled around” level gossips) are reliably homophobic while championing themselves as the only true allies. idk if anyone else from the ontd_ai days is here lol but i remember so many posts laughing about kris allen’s limp wrist (but not in a homophobic way!!!! as an ally!!!! 🙄)

Kradam really felt like proto-Larry, and a lot of those people went on to become larries...

it was really fascinating to me honestly as someone who had witnessed the kradam situation to see when i started encountering larry stuff just how identical the narratives were - the constant references to TPTB/management, the weird undercurrent of Homophobia But Make It Woke, the way people were always convinced something was about to happen and then when it didn’t they would just adjust their timelines six months in the future, the way that “evidence” is evidence but the absence of evidence is also evidence so literally any possible set of circumstances becomes possible to read as “proof”. it made me realize this is a phenomenon that does in fact have more in common with other kinds of conspiratorial thinking than it does with other wacky fandom behavior. i was sort of grateful to have had that experience in a smaller fandom where it fizzled out faster because i feel like it sort of inoculated me against these things and actually in 1d days when a friend of mine was like “idk the larries seem to be making points” i was able to be ( ... )

I read an article about this some time ago that was theorising a lot of het girls fetishise m/m shipping because it's a "safe" way to explore their sexual feelings towards men. There's more distance because it's not them or a person they could imagine themselves being, and there's less sense of competition/threat because "he's not into women" is less harsh on the ego than "he likes women, just not you."

And I was like... okay, I could see that for teenage girls, but you're still gonna have to explain to me why married middle aged women with children are doing this shit.
