I don't buy that story about the tour of the Mongoose losing money because that mechanical snake was so expensive, first, there's no way that snake cost 1 million dollars, specially not early 2000s dollars.
Second, there's no way the entire profit from the tour was also gonna be 1 million dollars, I guess her tax evading ways go way back.

The losing money part is sus in this regard, but I can believe that the set cost as much. Not the initial build, but having it dis/assembled every day, transport, extra safety measurements, permits... The Rolling Stones had a cobra structure on their 1994 tour, which was similarly expensive even back in the day - that one was significantly bigger, though & I never heard it lost them money lol

It really lost her money, which is probably why her next tour, the Oral Fixation Tour, was incredibly barebones to the point fans continue bringing it up every now and then. Her former boyfriend Antonio de la Rua brought it up in his 2012 lawsuit, saying that she was shocked to learn that the tour lost her money and caused her “extreme emotional distress and interfered with her ability to sleep and perform,” and so she fired her manager and decided to hire De La Rua to manage her from then onward.

Hmm I wouldn’t be surprised cause I went to that tour and her sale el sol tour and she def stripped it down stage-wise cause there was no props just her.

I think her subsequent after mongoose were like that iirc.

Yeah, I saw her El Dorado tour, and it was just her and the band, no props, no elaborate stage, nothing

Yeah that's why I totally believed her about that prop costing her money!! She never did it again!!

The Oral Fixation Tour (the one right after Mongoose) was so barebones that fans still joke about it not even having screens. It was my first Shakira concert and yeah, pretty much.
