Hannah Waddingham, star of such shows as Ted Lasso and Game of Thrones has been bestowed the honor of being the Godmother to Princess Cruises' newest ship, the Sun Princess. As part of her duties, Hannah will be at the Christening ceremony in Barcelona on April 23 to break open the ceremonial bottle of champagne on the side of the ship and christen her for good luck. However, this is nowadays done mechanically by pressing a button to ensure the bottle actually breaks.
Click to viewToday's fun cruising fact: this is the 3rd Sun Princess from Princess Cruises, after ships built in 1974 (partially sank and was scrapped in 2016 after having multiple owners after her Princess career) and 1995 (now the Pacific World with Peace Boat, which is an NGO that sails the world promoting international connections). The Sun Princess 2024 Model is over 10x the size of the original Sun Princess and is Princess' first LNG-powered ship for reduced emissions. And yes, Princess Cruises is of Love Boat fame. Every episode of The Love Boat is available on demand in passenger cabins and the ships play the Love Boat theme as their horns.
