Didn't he get recast in Iron Man because he tried to renegotiate for more pay and Marvel were like "lol no"? I don't know enough about him as an actor (or as a person generally tbf) to know if he's just being delulu or if he's actually a decent actor with crappy representation.

Edit to add I know black actors get completely shafted vs white counterparts when it comes to roles and pay, so I'm also not surprised by his story either way.

I may be wrong but I think it was either after the success of the first Iron Man he demanded more $$ than RDJ because he was the bigger name at the time of the first one OR after the first he just demanded a $10 million + contract which Marvel laughed at.

I can’t tell if you’re joking or just not referring to RDJ’s early fame. By the 2000s he was definitely considered a liability due to substance abuse history but was pretty famous before Ally McBeal. He had at least one oscar nom in the 90s, and was on the fringe of the brat pack in the 80. He wasn't A-list but he was pretty famous.

I guess I see it as: when Iron Man was made Howard was a rising star and downey was a Has Been. I can see why Howard saw his own celebrity as bigger at the time, but not sure he was right.

I’m 35, RDJs career was still in the midst of a comeback and Ally Mcbeal was the thing that convinced people he was worth maybe investing in whereas Terrance had just been nominated for an Oscar - the reason why he was paid more than the lead at the time.

Regardless of who has the bigger name, TH helped RDJ get cast in Iron Man. Then, RDJ's salary increased for Iron Man 2, TH's salary decreased to accommodate it. And TH had a higher salary than him in Iron Man btw. Given the success of the first one, it would make sense to increase both actors' salaries. Not increase one and reduce the other.

My understanding is that he actually did get more than RDJ for the first Iron Man, I believe that he got over 3 million for it, while RDJ got just $500,000. Then for the sequel RDJ got a massive pay bump to ten million, while Terrence has said that they tried to cut his pay down to $40,000

he got totally shafted by marvel. he got 3.5 million for the first iron man then after the film's success they wanted to *allegedly* cut his salary to under 100k because they didn't need him. he was supposed to get a pay bump if anything, instead he got replaced.

I thought he demanded more money and didn’t get along too well with the rest of the cast.
