Having seen Dennis Boutsikaris on various Law & Orders, I always read his name as "Dennis Booty-rockus" in my head.

I think the writing is not great, but I am here for Colin Farrell, Amy Ryan, and the dog.

It actually benefited from a series to delve more into the psyche of Ripley. Fantastic cast and cinematography.
I think I might start Sugar tomorrow. If anyone else has an opinion lmk!

I think if they hadn't managed to cast big names like Colin Farrell and Amy Ryan, this show wouldn't be a blip on anyone's radar. The main character is a PI cliche - he is good and moral and kind and thoughtful, but everyone else around him is fucked up (he won't kiss a drunk woman, he gives a homeless guy $200 and offers to buy him a plane ticket home, he repeatedly says that he doesn't like to hurt people while punching bad guys). On top of that, he loves old movies so we get clips from classic movies interspersed throughout the episodes, faux artsy shots, dialogue edited so that it's overlapping, etc.

I'm interested, but I think I'll wait a bit for more episodes to get released because I'm so paranoid about the dog dying. I just can't handle shit happening to animals.
