I’m sick of the steroid look expectation in Hollywood. Someone (here?) shared a comparison of how Russell Crowe looked like in Gladiator vs Marvel guys now, and it was so frustrating. Russell looked believably muscular, with body fat, but nowadays the expectations for men are to be extremely lean with a huge muscle mass. They all look like bodybuilders about to step on stage, but if you ever talk to anyone in the final stages of prep for a bodybuilding comp, they’re barely holding it together.
You can even see it in Hugh Jackman alone. Look at him in the first X-Men movie vs Logan. Nowadays some folks would probably say that 2000 Jackman had a dad bod.
I saw a tweet yesterday of a guy who joked "I've been weightlifting for a year just to look like a regular guy, I need some steroids", but in his pic he legit looked like a small-medium sized guy.
All these stars getting so yolked is really giving dudes unrealistic expectations of what they can achieve.
I'm so glad that this is being talked about more and people are noticing.
Kumail Nanjiani was such an egregious example of this a few years ago that, I feel, made more people start pay attention. He went from no foundation to, in just under a year, looking like he did.
I’m on a Dev high, so I think I’ll probably just relate everything to him/Monkey Man for the next few weeks haha, but I truly appreciate that he was still lean but muscular for the role, versus opting into this roided look.

It's horrifying what these men are pressured to do to their bodies. It's so obvious it's not natural at all.

One of my friends made me compare these exact versions of his body and it’s so much worse than I realized (frog boiled slowly effect).
And …he was basically perfect in the first X-Men.
