Spent all day finally listening to Cowboy Carter! Tyrant has become my personality (Meg needs to hop on a remix ASAP), but Daughter unlocked something deep within me.
More faves:
- Riiverdance
- Ya Ya
- Sweet Honey Buckiin'
- Amen
I have to agree with most of the ppl and think the Jolene is my least favorite track BY FAR (the Plastic Off the Sofa of this album I guess), but I do think this is Bey's most solid album of her career thus far.
I still prefer Renaissance because that speaks to me on a deeper level as a Black Trans Non-Binary, but Cowboy Carter was really enjoyable to me. It definitely felt like a Black Southern Gospel/Country album and as someone who was raised in church since birth, I was able to enjoy this album immediately compared to most people. Christina ofc said it perfectly: https://www.tiktok.com/@thatbrownguurl/video/7351656779278732586?is_from_webapp=1&sender_device=pc&web_id=7354840901623350827
New thoughts!! Beyonce is TRULY the artist of my life and our last true musical legend we have. She has her many faults as a capitalist celebrity, but I see her as my big sister and I would love to study her musicality and methodology for continuously putting out amazing bodies of work, honestly since Dangerously In Love, but especially post Self-Titled. I think that was the beginning of what led to us here with Cowboy Carter.

Thoughts on Renaissance & Cowboy Carter feeling like Greatest Hits

Other music: Tierra Whack's long awaited new album dropped and Tidal didn't notify me ;____; so I'll spend tomorrow listening to that. Love Doechii's new single as well as GloRilla and Meg's collab. The Hot Girl Summer tour is gonna be L I T! Can't wait to really wild out amongst the hot girls, gays, and theys!! Gonna also check out Bambii based on Henny's recommendation.

Jolene is definitely not my favorite but I still end up listening to it when I start the album too to bottom (which is almost every time). Unlike Renaissance, I think the order of the songs could have been shuffled. I see a lot of people saying Flamenco is a skip, but I think it's just because you want to Ya Ya again.
I didn't realize Tierra Whack had a new album, so thank you!

I think my biggest problem with Jolene is that it's overly heterosexual lmao. I know it's theorized the song is from Tina's perspective, but I would've liked if Bey made it more sapphic (even though she's straight) like that would've been a nice change up. Flamenco is eh, but you're right, I just want to get right into Ya Ya. I definitely agree that the track list could've been shuffled (sans Ameriican Requiem and Amen being bookends [CHEF'S KISS]) and I went into this album thinking the songs were gonna interweave like Renaissance.
No problem! Tierra is criminally underrated so I hope this album lives up to her talent and she gets to shine this year.
