Apr 02, 2024 13:10

Christopher Walken is known for a lot of stuff, but have you had a chance to check out some of his wackiest performances from some very old video games that most people don't remember and are relegated only to clips on YouTube? For such an illustrious actor, he seems to have been a fan for a few years of being in video games, mostly FMV (Full Motion Video) back in the era of DOS. Come with me on a trip back in time to the '90s and early '00s for a look back at some of Christopher Walken's forgotten gaming roles. And also enjoy a who's who of other actors you will recognize in the process!

RIPPER (1996)

1996's Ripper from a budding Take-Two Interactive follows an investigative reporter on his quest to track down a serial killer called "The Ripper" in 2040 New York while looking very mid to late 90s in the process. Walken plays Detective Vic Magnotta, a violent police officer with some very questionable behavior. This one costars a LOT of famous or semi-famous people and has multiple Academy Award nominees/winners present, but that can't save the dialogue choices. Fun fact: this game makes great use of Don't Fear The Reaper, but no cowbell is involved.
Also enjoy this Wired article from a few years back written by a crew member on the Ripper set about their experiences and Christopher Walken's weird behavior on a game that it seems none of the people who worked on it will ever forget for all the wrong reasons.

PRIVATEER 2: THE DARKENING (1996)

A sequel to the video game Wing Commander: Privateer (and existing in the Wing Commander universe - remember that extremely terrible movie?!) made by EA, Walken stars alongside some very illustrious names such as Clive Owen (well, he wasn't illustrious in 1996) and John Hurt. This takes place in space across multiple planets, so enjoy the very 90s special effects.

TRUE CRIME: STREETS OF LA (2003)

Remembered as possibly one of the worst video game voice performances of all time, enjoy Christopher Walken give life to an LA desk sergeant named George who gives some back story to the player. This game also features Snoop Dog.
