The star of "Stranger Things" said: “I don’t watch movies. People come up to me and say, ‘You should definitely watch this movie, it would change your life,’ and I’m like, ‘How long do I have to sit there for?’ Because my brain and I don’t even like sitting for my own movies.”

that she comes off as out of touch and questioning why she even wants to be an actress in the first place.

Do they know people who want to act are....acting? they didn't enter hollywood to watch the movies? but to make them?

it's fine to not want to watch part of your industry on your days off

As someone who is a writer and has had it nailed into my head that one of the best ways to improve your craft as a writer is to be a reader, that part is like O.O to me, but I get it - I know a fair number of actors who aren't into TV/movies (well, many of them are theater nerds, but that's another story).

Yeah, my sister's neighbors are actors and they don't own a tv. They just don't watch tv/movies. My sister and BIL are in animation and don't watch a lot of animation, though, either. But they are always watching some other film.

Apparently one of the guys gets angry if they mention Ryan Gosling because that's the career he thinks he should have.

Lmao! See, I'm petty, and something like that is so obnoxious, I wouldn't be able to stop gassing up Ryan in front of that manchild.

But surely they realized they wanted to act thanks to watching movies? Weird to think that liking movies and tv wouldn't come with the job... it's their craft... I'd be an idiot to want to become a published writer and not read books in my spare time...

to be fair, she started out very young so Idk how much of a saying she actually had. It’s not like Emma Stone who begged her parents to move to another city so she could be an actor (and it shows bc Emma’s letterbxd interview had a bunch of artsy-fartsy picks lol). I think folks love the romantic aspect of art, where an artist is completely immersed in their craft, but to a lot of them is just a job they can be pragmatic about, especially when their careers don’t necessarily turn out the way they dreamed of (Ellen Pompeo comes to mind).

yeah, Millie actually seems the type to completely focus on her makeup line once Strangers Things is done and perhaps do a movie once every 3 years or sth

you can't be that good at something if you don't immerse yourself in it, that's kind of ridiculous, and her acting skills reflect that. she seems fine with insincerely peddling though so if it works it works but idk how long a career of halfassed films and books she didn't write are going to take her post st fame.

It just feels like a really good way to hone your craft though, doesn’t it? Watching and observing other performances would have been helpful I thought. I don’t think she’s an especially brilliant actress either tbf, but then I keep hearing she was kinda pushed into it by her parents so maybe she just doesn’t care and is riding her popularity for as long as possible. In which case I hope she’s making savvy investments because I can’t see her current trajectory lasting ages and ages.
