Don't know what unmitigated covid means but I'm pretttttty sure fascism existed in WWI and WWII. U know what didn't exist tho.. The 24 hour news cycle and social media and doom scrolling. Cut down on your news intake for a month and u will feel better I promise. Yes bad things are happening in the world but..lots of good things too! You just have to look.

That sounds horrible, I didn't know that. If I read about all the bad stuff that was going on in the world it would probably cause me to be super depressed so instead I choose not to read too much bad news. Maybe ten min of news a day.. Local news, stuff that directly effects me? Say what you will about putting your head in the sand but you gotta look out for number one first.

I really didn't mean it to sound condescending, you just sounded alarmist and depressing and I remember feeling hopeless in the middle of a depressive episode and I wouldnt wish that for everyone. Was just trying to share what worked for me. School shootings are fucked, so I don't read about them. I am very lucky to live in Canada so it's easier for me to ignore them as 'not my problem' I suppose ( ... )

Speaking of, 'debating' with a stranger on the internet on whether we are all going to go up in a fireball in the next 100 years is def not on my list of things to do before bed but I guess there's a first for everything. Goodnight ❤️

FWIW, I'm glad you're raising these issues, because a lot of folks think they're NBD whether out of fatigue, willful ignorance, and/or privilege, with the occasional case of profound optimism. I'd rather be short-term sounding an alarm in hopes of becoming long-term optimistic about an informed populace who are ready to look after each other and fight for our collective liberation, than short-term conceptual optimism that lets me temporarily sleep at night while so many things are burning.

I fully agree with everything you wrote. Yours is the kind of thinking that honestly gives me hope, because it's understanding the gravity of where we are and are headed, and trying to sound the alarm to others so we can all activate.

I support people taking a pause or having distractions to help replenish and reset, but we have to know what's going on so we can make informed choices and action for us and future generations. Their choices already are going to be so much more limited by where we're headed if we remain passive, distracted, and making choices against our interest.

lol what? maybe we didn't have covid at the time but there weres still a lot of really bad diseases! it was common at the time for a family to have 10 children and only like 3 reached adulthood. health wise we are doing so much better!!

I mean societies do need younger people to eventually join the work force and we are not overpopulated despite what some people think, and ohmyana is right in the sense that the world has always been an awful shitshow, there's never been a "nice" time to have children. like it probably felt way crazier back in the 50s when the fear of total nuclear annihilation was incredibly real and vivid, my mom and her parents and siblings were digging a bomb shelter in her front yard in her childhood. people have kids in all kinds of terrible time periods. if you wait for a good time in history you'll wait forever

but I mean, I'm here not having children ever and would never ever consider it so I get you on a level. sometimes I wonder how I ended up being pulled into existence without anyone asking!
