I'm glad she's using her platform to talk about perimenopause because it's criminally under-discussed. I honestly didn't even really know about it until the last few years (I'm 36). The rest of this though is wild... She apparently claims to have "cured" her type 1 diabetes and now she thinks she's too healthy to go through peri? What does being "safe" have to do with anything?? I'm so confused.

Did she actually claim to be type 1? I remembering reading that there was conflicting reporting on whether she had 1 or 2. (And this quote would suggest type 2 - can't cure either but you can transition off insulin with that one.)

I couldn't find the exact quote from her, but I did find this old article that seems to strongly suggest she originally said she was diagnosed as type 1:

It definitely could be the case that she was originally misdiagnosed.

It is impossible that she was T1D. In T1D, your pancreas does not work. She would be dead.

Yeah, it seems really dangerous that she claimed she ate well and weaned herself off insulin without directly clarifying that she was able to because she has type 2. The whole thing is just weird to me.

Very dangerous. If she wants to use her platform, she could spread T2D awareness and have that could managed. People are not out here dying because they cannot afford or cannot get their insulin because of Ozempic, et. al, and Halle over there with a "cure".

There is periodic discussion in online diabetic spaces about this (I'm a T1 and this is one of those things people occasionally bring up). Everyone there seems to be of the general understanding she claimed she was T1 and was probably misdiagnosed - not taking your insulin is a death sentence for T1 people. We all know there's no cure - I wish!

I wish too! And that your medicine was cheaper or the $1 the inventor intended

I can’t find any direct quote from her claiming it’s T1D though, at least at a first glance. It’s mostly sources referring to her as a T1D. I don’t know, I could see her talking about insulin use and journalists assuming she was type 1 because of that and her age… It’s not like the average person knows a lot about diabetes.

She now says that she has TD2 but has previously said she had TD1. There’s been controversy about this since she came out with her diagnosis in the early ‘00s. She was either misdiagnosed or misunderstood her diagnosis, but she def has TD2.

Someone I know was misdiagnosed. T1 runs in his family so as an adult he started being careful about his diet and went to the doctor to have tests done. The doctor gave him supplies so he could check his blood sugar level and monitor the situation. Despite all of this, when diabetes finally hit him, they ran tests and did not diagnose him as T1. They started him on metformin and sent him to an endocrinologist. The endo ran more tests and called him immediately to tell him to stop taking the meds he was one because he actually had T1.

It was the same for me. In 2020 my "normal" doctor realized that my blood sugar was too high and just gave me metformin. I literally had all the side effects someone could have, my sugar didn't get any lower and even after Covid restrictions were lifted I barely got out of the house because of the side effects.
Then I stopped taking metformin, moved back home and went to an endocrinologist and I do not have type 2 but type 3, which is similar to type 1.

Whoa type 3?!

That was my reaction, too 😂

According to my doctor there are like 3 different types of type 3. so like 3a, 3b and 3c but for me it is caused by a genetic defect in the beta cells, which produce insulin. So I don’t die if I don’t get any insulin but my blood sugar would just be way too high but I can’t just change my diet like type 2 can. It all sounded so complicated and while I hate using the insulin pens I have accepted it. (And it’s not even the worst disease I have)
