I don't think it's that. I've seen videos of covid deniers trying to rip the mask off a person's face. You can't pretend everything is fine in the world when people are wearing masks because they're trying to lessen their risk of infection. The sight of a mask sort of breaks their mental illusion, they can't cope, and they are enraged.
