I hate the idea of being "overdue" for an award. it just sets everyone up for "career" awards, instead of taking each year as an independent event and awarding based on those performances alone (which is how it should be).

I absolutely agree. However, I always see people saying awards should be based on performances alone whenever a POC has a great narrative to go along with their great performance. And I'm pretty sure these are the same kinds of people who have no problem with awards going to overdue actors. The hypocrisy!

I'm not calling you or anyone on ONTD out for doing this, rather it's everywhere else and I noticed it a lot this awards season. Yeah, in an ideal world it would be performance based only, but that's truly impossible because things don't happen in a vacuum and these are all subjective anyway. But in the meantime, I'm fine with narratives helping those who are traditionally under-rewarded anyway. Though of course this overdue list is dominated by white actors lol.

yeah, that shit is why Ellen Burstyn was ROBBED by Julia Roberts

how any of those academy voters could have looked at the performances in Requiem and Erin Brockovich and thought, "Julia Roberts was definitely better" is insanity to me. She wasn't bad, but it wasn't the world's most challenging role, either.

If we’re gonna talk about robbery, Gwyneth Paltrow winning is by far the worst. Literally EVERYONE in that category was, on a bad day, a far better actor than she is on her best performance.

lmfao I fucking hated Shakespeare in Love, that movie deserved 0 awards, completely agreed. remember how Judi Dench got a nomination for appearing for ten seconds?

ik it's unpopular but i think roberts deserved it tbh. it was one of those really rough years where there were multiple stellar performances but i am fine with julia winning when she's never been better
