I don’t get why people on here have an issue with sergeancy? Maybe Cameron can’t get pregnant?

"For the ethical dilemmas on the surrogate maternity, there are some ethical arguments such as the lose of natural reproduction, and the use, commercialization and medicalization of the female body as a breeding box and its comparability with the child trade."

And that's just the tip of the iceberg.

These do not even mention the surrogate.

Because there are a lot of ethical issues with surrogacy, that go far beyond the can’t have their own kids/medical aspect.

I do understand why some have issues with surrogacy, but I’ve also seen that many here have an issue with adoption too (when the inevitable “can’t they adopt” question comes up).

You’d think that every adoptee grows up with serious issues, after reading some of the posts on here.

Some of the anti-adoption folks are very transparent tho. It’s not about the actual issue, they just want to demonize adoption altogether so it seems that prospective parents simply have no other choice besides turning poor, vulnerable women into incubators.

The ethical questions surrounding pregnancy/birth are endless to be honest. The thing you'll here in lots of infertility communities is a rage against the unfairness that someone who has no business having more children can just "pop them out" whenever.

And I think that while pretty much everyone in ONTD is clear about why they're against surrogacy and adoption (for those who are) there are certainly plenty of people who oppose it on religious and anti-LGBTQ+ grounds.

Which carries its own ethical issues.

I think the point is that anyone who pretends that there's a clear-cut "this is okay" vs. "this is not okay" is fooling themselves a bit.

Surrogacy agencies target WOC and low income women to be gestational surrogates for low pay, framing it as doing someone a favor and "fulfilling your dream to be a surrogate."

Different countries have different rules about it. There are countries that only allow for altruistic (aka.unpaid) surrogacy where the ethics might feel different because it’s not preying on lower income people that way.

This!

There are of course instances where someone might not be able to carry a pregnancy themselves and a sister or friend offers, but to go out and buy someone to go through all that is a different thing, imho.

I didn't used to have a problem with altruistic surrogacy until I had a kid. There are so many times during a pregnancy where very important medical decisions may need to be made and the only one making them should be the person carrying the baby. I imagine that's somewhat covered by contracts in commercial surrogacy, but with altruistic it's got to be thorny.

Because I think it’s weird and gross that rich people can purchase the use of another person’s womb to use as an incubator.

This! Especially when said rich people end up paying the surrogate amounts that equal out to less than minimum wage when calculated over the course of the pregnancy.

According to ONTD, literally everything in the world is an "ethical issue." No one should do anything ever.

it's not a human right to have a biological child. if you can't get pregnant, sorry. that's sad. but that's the lot you get.

buying a woman's body for your own gain is unacceptable. women are people. not for purchase.

...people who can choose to carry a baby for someone else. Who can choose to be compensated for that. You're making it out like the surrogates are forced or coerced against their will.

Youre allowed to not like it, so don't engage in it.

of course there's absolutely no way that desperate and poor women would feel like they have very little option but to engage in surrogacy. Absolutely no way that could happen at all. What other "job" makes you work 24/7 for nine months and could possibly make your teeth fall out?
