I mean, yea, alcohol and caffeine aren't great if you have anxiety. Sounds like it was more about taking out things like that. I feel like some people bristle at lifestyle advice for mental health because they take it as someone saying that's all you need to do (and some people do say that) but it's more about making changes like this in conjunction with any other treatment you might need.

When I read the headline I was like "oh god does she really think gluten, salt, etc. causes panic attacks or something", but really all of these things - sleeping enough, cutting alcohol and smoking where you can, eating enough and regularly - actually do get your body in a place where therapy or medical interventions can do the most good. Otherwise you're just undoing a lot of the benefits of those treatments.

I do get that too many people try to convince people they need one without the other though (like yoga/some fad diet in place of medical help, or conversely medication in place of quitting destructive habits), which is both naive and incredibly frustrating.

Yup! Lexapro was a huuuuuge step up for my anxiety attacks but also limiting caffeine, eating more protein, and forcing myself to go on walks were also really, really helpful.
