I love that she had 5 singles from that era and not a single one of them had anything to do with a romantic relationship. They were all about self empowerment in their own way from Dirrty to Beautiful to Fighter to CHUD and The Voice Within!

I have a vivid memory of dancing to “Beautiful” in 2002 with my friend at his Winter formal. We were both in the closet (gay/bisexual) and I was struggling with an eating disorder.

I know it sounds corny but it was a really beautiful moment and I still tear up just thinking back about how impactful that song was for me when it came out.

I’m also gay and was 18 when Beautiful came out, and then I was living in a very conservative small town in the south. The song and music video meant so much to me and got me through a lot of dark times as well so I definitely don’t think it sounds corny!
