Pedro Pascal says a residual check for ‘BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER’ saved him from going homeless when he only had $7 in his bank account.

“It literally is the reason I was able to stay in acting and not give up.”

That's true about character stability. But I was also thinking about characters like Jonathan and Anne/Chantarelle/Lily. Those two had little to no connection to the rest of the Scoobies outside of Buffy.

It never made sense to me that after Earshot and Graduation that Jonathan would become a villain in season 6; he might be anxious and danger-avoidant but he'll put up a good fight in the thick of it and not one to gaslight himself into rationalizing that things are normal when they're not (lost opportunity of not having someone who will physically fight with all they've got while screaming and crying in fear and being clever with their methods and limited capabilities, lol)

Anne was another somewhat reoccurring character who I would've loved to see more interact with Buffy. Buffy made such huge impact on her life and while it's great that she popped up in Angel, it would've been nice for Buffy to see how much of a difference she's making (Buffy in saving Anne, and Anne with how she's turned her life around).

Don't get me wrong, I love Tara, Oz, and Anya but at the core of it, they're in the group because of Willow and Xander.

I really liked Buffy's friendship with Kendra because those two could understand each other in a way that no one else can. The same could be said for Faith but she was done so wrong by every adult in her life that it's no wonder she latched on to the Mayor; he was the first and only person who didn't see her as an after-though, a sexual object or a tool, and was considerate of her as a person with her own preferences, thoughts and ambition.

I completely agree that Jonathan's villain arc was a mess, especially after she forgave him for manipulating everyone in season 4 or 5, whenever that ep happened. I honestly was not a big fan of season 6.

I LOVED Anne, but I think was tricky since she lived in LA (she and Angel did become pals though). I like to think Buffy checks in on her occasionally they just don't show it. Kind of like how Cordelia and Willow occasionally call each other but we only ever get funny snippets.

And I'm also with you that I loved her friendship with Kendra, and was sad it was cut so short. Faith was also an interesting relationship, I wish season 7 focused more on rebuilding that friendship. I love that all were that missing piece for one another, Kendra had the discipline but no heart (which Buffy gave her), and Faith had plenty of passion but no ability to plan (Buffy is the best strategist of the 3). They in turn gave her understanding and a feeling of not being alone, which was the thing she wanted most, and also encouraged her to accept and love her destiny.

She did form a friendship with Spike and Robin (and Dawn) that was independent of Willow and Xander, and occurred later on, and her friendship with Angel is also separate. I think she and Clem were friendly too in a weird way lol. I think her life is just tough and making friends in general was harder for her than most because anyone she lets in is also put at risk. That's probably why she scaled back befriending civilians. Xander and Willow were kind of accidents, she kept most other non-combatants at arm's length. She never even told her human boyfriends.

Omg, yes re:Faith! One of the reasons I hate season 7 is the lack of reconciliation between Faith and Buffy. I don't even need them to be bffs after the bodyswap but the show does need to make it clear where they stand with each other. I don't think Buffy is the type of hold a grudge but she wouldn't be wrong to keep her distance after that, and it makes no sense they never got a one-on-one talking out how they were gonna work together and rebuild that trust.

I really liked Buffy and Robin from what I remember of s7 but the show ruined him at the end, didn't it? I really don't remember, I've only rewatched it once and hated it so much I never watched it again but I do remember thinking that he was justified in hating Spike.

Her friendship with Spike was fun up until the end of season 5 but the show ruined everything that was good about him with with Buffybot and the rape. All that to motivate him into getting a soul? He would be so much more interesting as a character if he chooses/struggles to be good. The documented vampire lore about the vampirism cannibalizing any traces of humanity a person may have has always seemed iffy and unreliable because Spike has retained his ability to love and be loyal to Drusilla. I've always seen it as one of those things that the Watcher's Council lied about because it's more efficient to slay without that type of nuance. Harmony is another great example of this since there wasn't much difference in her personality, insecurities, and values after becoming a vampire.

And Clem!! How could I forget about Clem! He's an absolute darling and his friendship with Buffy and the Scoobies is so wholesome. And I absolutely agree that Tara should've had more one-on-one scenes with Buffy. Tara and Dawn had a great sisterhood too; it makes no sense that she didn't think about the finances of raising a teenager at all after Buffy's death and resurrection.

Totally agree with all of this (especially about the mess that was season 7 and how much they ruined Spike/should have fixed things with Faith - Buffy forgave evil Willow she'd forgive Faith). I think Spike, and also Drusilla, were supposed to be more human than a lot of vampires because the Judge wanted to burn it out of them. I don't know if there was a reason for it or if the writers were just like "nah this one is gonna be a SIMP", because I don't remember it in any other vampires besides the two of them and Harmony. Maybe it's because Drusilla was special/crazy, and then she sired Spike and he sired Harmony? And that special brand of crazy just got passed down?

I don't remember much about Robin either (in part because that actor always ends up playing the blandest characters), but yeah Spike killed his mom he's completely justified in going after him. Even souled he was still wearing the coat he stole from her.

Clem was a delight. I think you look at her friendships and Angel's their civilian human friendships - though absolutely critical to saving their sanity and giving them reason to fight - were always something that happened to them and never by their own intervention. Like Cordelia, Willow, and Xander just wormed their way in. Fred also was a surprise addition. Occasionally they made friends with slayers, watchers, other fighters, or demons, but I think both were expecting a very lonely path ahead and needed someone else to make the first move.
