I know this show was Christian propaganda but it was less extreme than the stuff I was sometimes exposed to lmao so I watched (and enjoyed) this (very terrible) show.

I watched it only because it was one of the few shows my very conservative parents would let me watch openly. Everything else I had to sneak lol.

Growing up in the days of one family TV with no DVR or streaming was rough. I remember when we got TiVo. Changed my life lmao.

Having a VCR was helpful but you could only tape one thing at a time! If my mom had a show she was taping, I would lose out. I had to choose between Roswell and Smallville so I missed most of the last season of Roswell.

I realized a few years ago that I hate-watched this show before I even know what hate-watching was. I’d literally just sit as a kid (an immigrant still learning English) and just watch them not knowing half of what they’re saying, but being so annoyed by how corny there were. 😂 Even my parents would ask why I’m watching and I couldn’t give them an answer. It wasn’t until later on that I realized how it was 95% propaganda.

As a European, I was really taken aback by how blunt it was with its propaganda.
I vividly remember the episode where Matt shames his wife for voting for the Democrats and by the end of the episode, she learned her lesson and said "you're right, George W Bush is pretty amazing".

I looked up the transcript for the “vote” episode and it looks like they didn’t mention either candidate by name. It was mostly just about how important it was to vote.

They must have added it in the German dubbing then for context because that was definitely what she said in our version.

Yeah, not to defend this Christian propaganda, but I distinctly remember them being one of the few shows to actually show empathy for and decry violence against Muslims post-9/11 and routinely had episodes showing interfaith meetings, so I was having a very "I don't think that's true, Ellen" moment with that whole "Matt convinced his wife to vote Republican and praise George Bush" thing.
