Recently, Joanne took to twitter to accuse a person of having a fever dream for sharing the incontrovertible fact that Nazis burned books on transgender healthcare. This is a form of holocaust denial called "soft" denial or revisionism.

I just… how? How did you type this out and press send without thinking ‘I should maybe check my source for ( Read more... )

I agree with him that she most likely at best is not aware of this being actual truth and event that happen (*cause I don't know either) but that regardless instead of acknowledging and apologizing she'd rather continue not acknowledging it because she refuses to give any path to sympathy for the trans community.

*Although now remembering The Danish Girl, the real-life Lili Elbe did have to go to Germany for sex reassignment surgery which ironically was done at the Magnus Hirschfeld's Institute for Sexual Research ha!

I didn't know about those particular books either. But the Nazis burned so many books on certain subjects or by certain authors. Why is it so hard for some to believe that they burned these kind of books too?

Literally the effect of book burning, revised history. They like to pretend and misinform like we don’t have a history.

Truthfully it’s only been in the last few years that I think queer history has getting some recognition cause when i was growing up I didn’t see much. Which is a bit ironic to me cause I did know that gay men (just realized I’ve never heard about the gay women side of it) were sent to the camps.

It's not helped by the fact that in the vernacular of the time, there really wasn't a separate category of 'trans.' (The Institute that was burned down was one of the first to start coining phrases).

Trans people tended to get lumped in as 'gay' or the broader category of 'sexual deviants' that gay people were put into, so it's easy for people who aren't familiar with the contemporary context to assume that the lack of separate mention means they weren't around or didn't get targeted

I haven't heard much beyond it was mostly men & they had to wear a pink triangle on their coats. They've since reclaimed it as positive symbol (see link below).
Sometimes you hear that the Nazis killed 6 million Jewish people & 4 million others* during the Holocaust; which included homosexuals (men & a few women) transsexuals, religions the Nazis didn't like, Roma people, disabled people (mentally & physically) & Communists. Plus professors & teachers of things they didn't agree with.

*Not counting prisoners of war & civilians.

Yeah I've heard of the Roma people (they got a blue upside down triangle), the Rhine children, the disabled/mentally challenged, the gay men, etc..etc but I think there's a lot you def don't hear as much about.

They’ll believe the burning of books in general but those types of people like to believe things that they deem wrong are a ‘problem’ of the modern world and that things like that simply didn’t exist in those times.

Basically blissfully ignoring the fact that this goes back basically as long as humanity has existed, it’s really nothing brand new..

A lot of conservatives believe that transgender folks didn’t exist before [INSERT OBLIGATORY YEAR HERE] so they can feel free to attack this “new” movement.

My friend and I were talking about Hirchfeld last night. People need to read up on this subject.

Not really cause I said I agree with him when he says that she’d rather than accept the truth she’d rather remain ignorant instead of encouraging any sympathy towards the trans community.

We’re all in agreement that she’s a terrible person.
