I wish that this show had been more than beautiful gowns. The actual story and all of the women's stories were more interesting than what we actually saw on the show, which was disappointing. I hate how much of the tv show was fictionalized (the entire James Baldwin episode) or imaginary (this episode plus the dream sequences in previous episodes). It seems like such wasted potential.

I don't think they had enough material with the way they filmed it so they had to shove in extra stuff.

The terrible thing is that there was plenty of material from their lives/the book the show is based on, but they skipped most of that and gave us these lame fantasy/dream sequences.

SO much. I read the book it's based on just before watching the show and there was just so much material.

THERE WAS SO MUCH MATERIAL! they're just cowards who are afraid of making waves and getting sued, or they don't read.

Now see, I loved the James Baldwin episode. Chris Chalk was mesmerizing (like James was in real life) and it served as a way to get more info (ie: the Swan's racism and homophobia, Caputo's own complex feelings about his relationship with them, etc) without it being straight exposition. I would say that and the B/W episodes were my favorites.

Ooooh…I’m kind of a James Baldwin stan and had no idea he is portrayed in this series. I didn’t think he and Capote even interacted much irl
