Kinda on topic but I just found out emma lives in austin now. Which I get but also don’t since she has kids now. Granted, she bought back in 21 when shit wasn’t as toxic here but I don’t know a lot of parents who are wanting to stay in texas for their kids’ upbringing.
I honestly think that even if rich people have personal politics like believing abortion should always be available, trans rights, etc., they're so rich that they know nothing will ever affect them personally, so they'll live in any shithole if their personal bubble is pleasant enough.
I get that. There is a definite layer of insulation for them. I’m not sure if austin has progressive private schools like los angeles. I know our public schools are decent here but still they’re in TEXAS. I was surprised when I found out in her recent profile that Kiki and Jesse were back in california. Jesse has lived here forever and I know they were here for the pandemic. But I figured their kids are now in school so why would they pick texas? This is me making a bunch of assumptions with my whole chest.
Yah. Most of my friends who have young kids are wanting to move somewhere north (wisconsin & minnesota). The ones with middle schoolers are typically more rooted but I could see them moving if one of their kids were lgtbq.
Jeeeeealous! I’d love to be an immigrant worker somewhere. I really should look into the countries who are recruiting professionals. I can be an accountant anywhere
I have been looking at New Zealand and one of the Nordic countries for accepting working tourists. I think Singapore also has one, which is good for me and my rudimentary Chinese.
Nordic was where I’d looked years ago but i was so entry level that i’d be broke af. I’m a lot more surefooted in my career now so I’d be looking at better opps at least.
If you can do it freelance/location independent, Portugal is desperate for young people to move here and spend their money here! I'm a freelance grant writer and was able to immigrate here thanks to that, and the COL is so low that I was able to qualify on 10-15 hours a week of working with US pay.
Ooooh.. i’m going to look into that for real. My main hesitation in moving or relocating right now is my dog. He’s a pit mix (pit LAB mix but I digress) and they aren’t welcome everywhere. Also, he LOVES his life in Austin.
It is definitely something to consider for the future.
I didn't! I'm 1099 grant writing for a handful of clients in the states and fill in the gaps with an agency out of NC. I just transfer the $ to €. For us in particular, I'm not sure you could do it elsewhere as grant writing is a uniquely American thing due to our broken tax/social support system.
