I’m more invested after this episode but I still hate the theme music.

I couldn't get into the first episode but I thought I would post an episode discussion in case anyone else was still watching. Hearing you got more invested after watching this episode is making me lean towards giving it a try to see if it can pull me in, so thanks for saying that!

This show is really not good, but Matthias Schoenaerts as a gruff bodyguard/enforcer/psychosexual partner is doing it for me.

They knew what they were doing when they cast him!

I haven’t seen the second episode, but I watched the first episode and it was weird. For some reason I wasn’t expecting it to be a satire. From the promo pics, I thought it was more of a drama.
*edit to add, I think I know why this show hits weird, [Spoiler (click to open)] it feels weird that an authoritarian leader with mental health issues being played as a satire sits odd with me. Maybe it’s because the real world is a dumpster fire, and making a joke out the dumpster fire starters just doesn’t work for me

Maybe later this week I’ll check out the second episode.

Yeah maybe it's because of the astronomical death tolls on a daily basis that we've seen over the course of the last six months in Gaza, but the massacre at the site 5 didn't really phase me. And that made me feel weird too. Not sure if I'm going to stick with this series...

It's strange for Western/global hegemon countries to produce satire of Eastern/bordering Eastern countries. It feels ungrounded and like shallow propaganda rather than anything interesting, meaningful, or even entertaining. It's been done well (Death of Stalin), but rarely. We have examples of authoritarian Western leaders to pull from, we don't need to be vaguely post-Soviet.

the show is so weird but not in a funny dark comedy kind of weird, its just "there"? I watched the first episode and did not get the point at all.

Also awful timing for a show like that with Putin, Kim and Netanyahu still alive and Trump potentially being back in office soon.

I like Kate Winslet but I find her acting distracting and annoying in this. I don’t think I’ll keep watching unless I start to hear really good things
