My guess is that he's in her delicate, fragile, Glinda-the-Good-Witch era so that's what she's bringing in her singing too. She's playing up that doe-eyed naiveté to avoid as much accountability as she can for her Spongebob mess. She wants her cake and eat it too so she can't bring those powerhouse vocals from her Latina/Black eras because the last thing she wants is to seem like she was totally in control as a homewrecker.
