I will 100% be reading this book. I still remember seeing her art on Instagram before their divorce was announced and phew! She sure knows how to work out emotions in a visual medium. This one is probably my fave. I wish I could afford one of her prints but they're so damn expensive.

Honestly. I was objectively kind of impressed with how she carved out a space for herself as an artist in the wake of this whole thing blowing up, especially as the not-famous-one. I know people were parasocial and weird in parts, but there was something kind of special about people communing to pour love on this woman who was navigating her grief through portraiture.

I still remember she posted a photo of herself reclined in a chair alongside a caption that said "The Room That Was", and one of the kid actors who was in Mulaney's Sack Lunch Bunch commented and said "And all the rooms that will be <3" and I damn near wept.

I completely agree. I think it's amazing how she managed to work through the grief of her divorce via self portraits. And there was such a genuine outpouring of love. I feel like most people over looked that while Mulaney went to rehab she was also seeking help for her own problems. I really admire her for being able to create so much beauty out of a terrible time in her life.

I think my favorite one was her throwing their wedding dishes out the window. It really aesthetized her catharsis in a darkly funny way. I really wanted to buy the print of her in the pink dress in the pink room, but yeah way too fucking rich for my blood.

It's so funny you mentioned that one because that was the other one I wanted to share. I remember the caption, something like, "Don't worry, it wasn't the good china" or something.

I think I'd love to have the portrait of her sitting at the dinner table with two versions of herself.
