I'm surprised that at this point anyone who works with netflix doesn't expect to get immediately canceled, but usually well-received shows get two seasons before they drop the axe (expecting more than 2 with their well-publicized tactics is pretty delusional though, for actors and audiences). Though then again, people are still working with WB for some reason too. I guess you're only safe if you're on a Dick Wolf show.

tbh the season 1 finale also functions pretty well as a series finale, so I'm guessing the showrunners were hedging their bets by providing enough closure in case Netflix decided to netflix.

Eventually they’re going to lose talent because of this, leading to shittier shows and over time less viewers. Idk.. I do think people crave good, well-written content and all this cutting corners and focusing solely on numbers and money is going to cost them in the end.

At least that’s what I think on my more optimistic days lol.

They're for sure shooting themselves in the foot. I hate the capitalistic tendency of prioritizing present gains over any future stability or longevity. And when things hit the shitter, they're all going to be "Pikachu surprised face" about it.

The most infuriating thing is, Netflix barely did any promo for it so how did they expect to garner interest?? I do think the show could've had a stronger title because The Brothers Sun doesn't exactly spark intrigue but regardless, Netflix's standards now won't even allow shows to grow a following. If they won't promote it then they have to rely on word-of-mouth and that type of thing needs TIME. A show needs to have a passionate cult following before they can hit mainstream if that's what Netflix was hoping for.

Their financing is so weird. On the one hand, I guess not marketing their originals means shows get to use that marketing money on the actual show itself so they'll have a bigger budget than if they go elsewhere but then that means they'll have to be VERY confident that they're show's a hit because they're totally reliant on viewers to spread the word.

I think they really don't care as long as they get a few "big" shows like The Crown, Stranger Things, Bridgerton, etc. They'll continue to churn out a lot of stuff for their algorithms, hoping some of it sticks, but they're a tech company first and foremost. They're not in it for the art or love of media. They're in it to make money, but sooner or later their bubble will burst. And their practices won't be viable anymore.

IMO all the ways we think of traditional studios and media companies doesn't apply here. They don't follow common practices and people are clearly frustrated by it, especially when it affects bipoc creators and talent.

I hate to say it but we need to bring back nepotism in owning companies. When people plan to pass stuff down to their children they care about the long-term goals of the company, not just short term profits.

(Also why we should always have a strong government-owned health and space programs, capitalism is not innovative or forward thinking at all. I think the fact that Space X and all these other private companies are barely able to achieve the technology and successes that government scientists in the 80s or even 60s managed should be embarrassing enough to drive them out of business).
