Does anyone else have trouble listening to podcasts or audiobooks? :( So many I think I'd listen to but if I don't have a visual via video or physical book/screen, my brain retains no information and I zone out.

I used to have this problem but I found doing a puzzle or playing a game (https://www.bubbleshooter.net/bubbles-2/) really helped me focus. Now that it's been a few years I'm much better at it and can listen while I go on walks.

Same here, I have to be doing something else like games/chores to hear it.

Lmao I play bubble shooter whilst answering the phone at work. It's actually very relaxing!

I do. There’s so many that I’m interested in, but I know I’ll zone out.

If it's a conversation between people, no. If it's a monotone reading then usually yes.

I have trouble listening to podcasts mainly because I just can't bear to listen to men explain things they aren't even qualified to talk about and I hate the general tone of most shows, but I'm with you in that I also struggle when I'm just listening to raw information - I need to take notes or have something visual or tactile to attach to it. It's too easy for your mind to wander if it's not super-engaging. I can do silly podcasts and certain fictional audiobooks though.

omg, this. My partner listens to a lot of podcasts and I always feel like a hater because I can’t stand their tone(s). 9/10 hosts sound like they’re only talking because they love the sound of their voice and think they’re the smartest, most clever people in the room. I wish a lot of them had a good moderator to steer them.

Exactly this! It's that combination of smug "this information may shock you!" attitude (and all their info is just from wikipedia) plus all the inane filler they think anyone cares about that just kills me.

In school, if I wrote it down, I knew it forever. Even doodling helped me remember. But just listening, it goes in one ear and out the other.

Same issue. My brain drifts off and then the episode is over and I am like wait what did I even listen to

The only thing I can do while I listen to a podcast is work out. It's even tough while I'm driving unless it's just going down the highway and not changing lanes.

the only time i can do it now is when i'm driving :( it's like my brain is spending the required focus on my eyes so it has the remainder allowed for my ears lol

Yes. I can't pay attention and I retain very little of information I've heard.

Me. I genuinely cannot retain the information I'm hearing. I assume it's because of my ADHD.
