Omg my whole long ass comment got deleted by the page 💀 so i accidentally wrote a long one anyways lolll

I read too much Joan Didion (whom I hate more and more so I stopped lol) but I like some of her $20 vocab words like sinistral (was $10 but inflation).

Sinistral means left handed and also when the left is disconnected from the right. Also means devilish and satanic. Like she writes about "sinistral inertia" which I think means either her writing is impacted as she's a southpaw/left handed, or could be saying there's something disquieting about that and it could be her smoking hand as well (sinistral means on the left side, unfavorable, devilish, like left-handed ppl were regularly forced to write with their right hand at catholic schools bc of the association with evil and the Devil).

Barbara Grizzuti takes down Didion in this amazing critique. And don't get me started on the disturbing photos of Didion. She's so disconnected from everyone in a photo with her, it's very eerie and uncanny valley to me.

The German one takes a rather different approach (iirc) and thankfully they have a totally different fab 5 that are actually German or fluent in German and live there. The German one has people who don't display these HUGE glaring flaws or cruelty and very, very often severe narcissism (which to me is sinistral; devilish) that I keep seeing in QE "heroes" in the US. US QE has at least one deeply problematic narcissist each season (usually more) and I'm replused by them getting free shit when they treat those who love them like crap.

Or there are milder versions that piss me off, like the 1st guy this past season, whose marriage was a mess. When they asked him to pick a pastry that his wife of 40 years would like, and he didn't even know what to pick. That's enraging and heartbreaking. And it was clear that his wife had spoken to him about this many, many times and he continues to be a shitty husband emotionally and not giving a fuck about her emotional needs.

The German season is also oddly very football focused (unintentionally? Or did they recruit from a footie center?) And I find the people much more relatable bc I'm not American, even though I live here, but I have always planned to move back to the EU (sadly my mother country doesn't give me EU citizenship though, but I have lived and illegally worked there lol). And it has a gay German guy which is so nice to see bc I don't ever see that. I have a hard time finding my fellow immigrant/international queers irl bc I pass as American to the untrained eye.

With the DE-QE I forced my German speaking partner to watch it with me and we kept playing "which Football team will they be going for next?" And it was always Dortmund and we would crack up laughing.

I miss Leni, she was a delight.

Seriously HOW did they base a whole season around footie lovers? 🤣 🤣

Late reply is late, but thanks for the explanation!

And I see what you mean about the "heroes" in the US version, I agree some of them don't need the Fab 5 and rather an intervention and a therapist.

As I said I haven't seen the German season yet, but now that I think about it, I think it could be hard to find at least men here who would not have an interest in football XD Like I do have some male friends who don't care about the sport, but on average the guys I know have some interest in the sport^^

Oh yeah, but it seems like they recruited not just fans but people whose lives revolve around the sport. Because every "hero" either works in football or is an extreme fan. A pretty sad one that seemed to end well - at least what they showed us - was a gay man who was afraid that if he came out they'd no longer let him coach boys' soccer. Another is a single Dad whose life and house are all about being an extreme fan where their whole house is a tribute to a team, etc.

Someone else commented about it on this thread. I wonder if they recruited at a footie club bc only one hero was not into football, a very young woman who sadly passed away (may she RIP, it was tragic, her whole family had the same genetic disorder and passed young 😢 😔 it's so sad, she needed a transplant iirc).

I found out she died bc I commented years ago on the episode on reddit and her widowed stepmom or someone without the gene commented to all of our replies (I guess out of grief and a desire for comfort 😥) that she had passed away in her early to mid 20's sometime last year.

I no longer have Netflix bc of their fucking account sharing ban, but I can't find the German one anywhere else streaming for free 🏴‍☠️🌊 If you find a place let me know!

Yeah then it probably was deliberate. Maybe they were trying to get men who like football interested in watching that way.

Oh man that is really sad :(

Send you a message ;)
