i'll be so glad when voting ends on tuesday so everyone can just sit back and chill the fuck out already

also the idiot at variety broke academy rules and dropped some anon voters' responses already and well it's seems to be all over the place as usual, except that not only is robert getting that oscar, but probably by a HUGE majority https://variety.com/2024/film/awards/anonymous-oscars-ballots-voting-day-one-robert-downey-jr-1235919493/

"Sandra Hüller’s performance in Justine Triet’s “Anatomy of a Fall” has been hailed with passionate advocacy from voters despite her not being the presumed winner. “There’s no other performance that came close,” commented one voter, underscoring the impact of Hüller’s role in the French drama.

This scenario echoes the 2020 awards season when Anthony Hopkins won best actor for “The Father” in an unexpected victory over the late Chadwick Boseman for “Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom,” raising the question of whether another surprise win could be on the horizon despite formidable frontrunners Lily Gladstone from “Killers of the Flower Moon” and Emma Stone from “Poor Things.”

Despite her acclaimed performance, Hüller has not won other major prizes and is notably absent from the SAG Awards nominations - a critical predictor for Oscar success. This lack of recognition places her at a severe disadvantage."UGGGGGH COME THROUGH EURO BLOCK ( ... )

"d hear one of the awards bloggers say that they were talking to people in Hollywood and many people don't think she deserves a second one so quickly, but it seems that these people who think it's too much too fast for her haven't coalesced around an alternative (Lily? Sandra? Annette even though her movie sucks as an overdue thing? poor Carey seems to be the only one not at all in the convo) so she will prevail."

Now I'm thinking worst-case scenario of Annette Benning getting the SAG win. Which if she does it's only gonna be because she apparently helped out a lot during the strikes.

I'm not ruling out Lily but she does seem weak next to Emma. Interesting that they are people similarly thinking she doesn't deserve a 2nd oscar so soon. Which is why I'm looking at Annette cause it doesn't look like they wanna swing to 2 unknowns (Lily and Sandra-although Sandra is more known in Euro Cinema) then they could take a hard left and finally give Annette one cause she's got the overdue narrative. If Emma wins tmr, it's over and decided.

Annette has been campaigning so hard too lol. idk, i feel like she totally could've pulled this off if the Oscars hadn't expanded their voting body so aggressively but i don't know how she's going to get the voters who don't live in Hollywood to vote for her

that said if she somehow won it would be so funny. i watched Nyad, it's definitely one of those inspirational movies aimed at older audiences which is fine and maybe the older voters will like it but it's at times hilariously bad and honestly Jodie was better than Annette in it.

That's the consensus I've heard from most people who've seen it.

If I go on my gut feeling, I still can't rule Lily out. Tomorrow really is the decider.

sandra's reaction at the cesars was so cute. i wish milo won too but oh well.

i hate to say this but i do wonder if sandra was younger and more conventionally attractive (like marion during la vie en rose) there would be more competition between her and emma. at the same time emma def campaigned a lot more

yeah absolutely. you either have to be a conventionally attractive young actress or to be seen as a veteran to win best actress and sandra doesn’t have enough hollywood roles for the latter and is too middle-aged for the former.

i do wonder if things would be different if she got the attention she deserved for toni erdmann. apparently the cannes jury didn't want to give it anything bc they hated it

sandra did win the cesar today, and the movie itself swept those awards, but i'd have more invested in her if she was even nominated for a bafta, forget winning it. if the brits couldn't show her any love, i can't imagine the most-american academy would

Except Baftas and Cannes, other foreign awards don't seem to factor in the awards race. I was surprised the Baftas did not pick her!

I wanna have hope but it's looks s l i m ;-;

I can't believe that Emma Stone is getting all the awards and is the frontrunner, when Sandra and Lily gave much more powerful performances. I think Scorsese hurt Lily's chances by making her a sort of a supporting character, which is my main issue with KOFTM, the fact that the Osage community was secondary and Leo and De Niro's characters were the leads.

And when it comes to Sandra, I know they're very different movies, but having Sandra in the category and giving the award to Emma is ridiculous to me

She was nominated for two BAFTAs. AoaF and Zone of Interest.

clayton davis is such a hack lol. i have very little respect for awards pundits who view films primarily through the lens of awards.
