I hated him in the role tbh. He was overrated since then. Although the writers mishandled all the Dornish characters.

💯 Everything about the show's treatment of the Martells and Dorne rankles: from the casting (with the exception of Alexander Siddig and Indira Varma), to the awful storylines and dialogue, and let's not forget the erasure of Arianne's pov altogether.

I liked him in the Oberyn role.

But I also hated how the writers handled the Martells' story line. I hated it even more after I read the books and they omitted Arianne and Quentyn and the rest of the sand snakes.

I always fancast Oberyn with a MENA or South Asian actor like Silas Carson, so I was disappointed from the get-go. And when I watched I felt that Pedro's Oberyn came across as a louche caricature and not the charismatic, deadly Red Viper I loved in the books.

I was just expecting so much more, but GOT dropped the ball when it came to Dorne and the Martells (even when they got casting right, like Alexander Siddig as Doran and Indira Varma as Ellaria, they butchered their characters).

He's a perfect Oberyn, but he and Indira are the only thing the showrunners got right about the Martells.

I found the quality of character writing really inconsistent on GoT. Some were consistently good, and others it kinda felt like they just phoned it in or straight HR up gave up on them.

I quite liked Oberyn but he did come across a little pastichey at times
