I watched his SAG interview and he was very honest about his connections (and luck) helping him get the role. He heard about the role and made an audition tape. He has been friends with Sarah Paulson forever, who is friends with Amanda Peet, who is married to one of the creators, can't remember which one. So he asked her to put in a good word for him.
And Sarah made sure the guy watched the tape, which eventually got him cast.

I remember Bryan Cranston saying no matter how talented you are, if you're not somewhat lucky, you can't make it in the industry. I'm glad Pedro was lucky enough to get a break. More people should own it instead of using the "I worked really hard to get here, no one did it for me" line. Specially nepo babies.

Yeah I saw the interview on Howard Stern where he said that a lot of actors fail to grasp or embrace that to have success in the industry is that you need luck.

He mentioned how landing an episode of The X-files was his lucky break cause the episode Vince Gilligan and so he would later remember Bryan for Walter White

the reality is, everyone is lucky in the entertainment industry, for better or worse.

A classically trained actor who technically has the best skill and range can be overlooked by the hot new thing that just stepped onto the scene.

Oh, you can hold a note and belt out that song? That's cool, but so can thousands of other people. What's gonna set you apart from the rest? Seizing a moment and building on momentum.

There's also no rhyme or reason why a social media personality gains enough traction to get big, while others barely get any views.

It really is all about luck, timing, and algorithms.

totally - as someone else said, this is honestly true in a lot of industries and parts of life.

its more glaring when its something like, your parent runs the company or is ron howard or whatever, but its also true that we all use networks and connections and timing to our advantage over the couse of life.

i think pedro did a good job of like, not apologizing for the fact that his connections helped while also sticking up for his own talent. i understand why someone who works at their craft would bristle at the idea that they ONLY made it because of connections and its hard to strike the balance of "i was out there grinding, trying to take acting courses and unique roles, but without my friend/connection and good timing with the right role...." or whatever.

i think its totally fair to credit both and he did a good job of it.
