Warner Bros. film chiefs are said to be less pumped about Bong Joon Ho’s “Mickey 17,” which was just moved to January 2025. The film, starring Robert Pattinson, cost $150 million.

A Warner rep insists: “There is, of course, enthusiasm for it.”https://t.co/vg8rYmv1y5 pic.twitter.com/Tb1TuLYjaV

Can't imagine that they'd be moving Mickey 17 to that date if they had any confidence in it. This year's release slate is not exactly overflowing after the strikes last year. And okay, maybe IMAX is booked up, but to delay the film a whole year for that seems over the top. I loved Parasite, but that doesn't mean every BJH movie is gonna be a smash.

LOL at Joker 2's budget... like, there is no way it needed over double the budget of the first one, even with Gaga.

Honestly shocked by the PTA film budget, considering his last film's budget was like $40 million, and that was already high for him.

I cannot wait to never hear David Zaslav's name again, truly.

Joaquin Phoenix is getting $20 and Gaga is getting $12 so what on earth is the rest of that money gone towards. Those salaries aren’t unusually high if they don’t really have a first dollar gross back end deal.

we've seen a few of the sets and they are massive, like setting an entire giant building on fire... but, like, still?? where is that money going lmao

It isn't about confidence in Mickey 17. Zaslav is a Trump-supporting conservative who doesn't want to promote a Bong Joon Ho film that ridicules Trump. Reportedly Mark Ruffalo's character bears a resemblance to Trump and he is mocked mercilessly in the movie. Zaslav didn't greenlight Mickey 17, he inherited it when he became CEO at WB. He's just trying to bury it now.

- originally slated for the end of march 2024
- taken off of the slate in exchange for Godzilla vs Kong
- year-long delay despite being in post-production

Zaslav already removed the film from release to make way for Godzilla vs Kong. He doesn't appreciate a filmmaker like Bong, he wants middle of the road junk that has made money in the past. There are three movies with summer release dates that he could put Mickey 17 into, but he won't, because he thinks they're commercial junk that will make bank.
