Mallrats was great but how would you even do a Mallrats 2? Malls and mall culture are long dead, unless we're going to watch all the old people from the original do their daily mall-walking?
I'm glad to hear this! I was about to say that commentary on dying mall culture would be right up Kevin's alley! Especially with how Clerks III was about endings of an era/"ending of the view askew-niverse".
yeah that's I was like ??? whenever I read stuff about malls being dead bc every time I'm at South Coast, or Brea Mall, the Block or Spectrum it's like "okay but this place is filled w/ppl I can't find parking??" but it's likely a phenomenon hitting smaller cities & flyover states since southern California is densely populated and touristy af
i do miss westminister mall though. i haven't been in a while, but i've heard that everything is pretty much gone and they're going to make it like bella terra. I LOATHE that parking lot. Even Fashion Island, I'm not thrilled with the changes. They got rid of cheescake factory and CPK because of some new high end restaurant going in. I did hear that some of the malls were going away in San Diego like Mission Valley and Grossmont. haven't been to SD in a while but I'm surprised! Those places were always packed.
I just like going to the mall still..the experience of walking around, grabbing a pretzel, people watching, catch a movie, do some shopping i can't afford...do today's teens not do this?
I'm originally from South Bay and like, everywhere I shop in the area is still packed on weekends. Plaza Bonita, Las Americas, etc. Fashion Valley still had plenty of people in it the last few times I was there.
EDIT: I will say though that Chula Vista Center has always felt a little sad to me.
