this post where debut author Cait Corrain created numerous accounts on Goodreads to review bomb fellow 2024 release BIPOC authors, Corrain was interview by The Daily Beast claiming despite how it looks she is not racist for the authors she targeted.
- Corrain doesn't address making POC sounding usernames to downvote these authors
- They also do not address that the character of 'Lilly' they invented to initially take the blame commented on targeting POC authors so they were aware of what they were doing
- Corrain also claims they targeted books 'above' her in the rankings while people using Goodreads are largely aware that POC authors are not elevated above white authors. They also targeted an indie author who was clearly not above them.
- The author claims that their autism and a cocktail of drugs she was being prescribed (not out of negligence from her doctor, but because she lied to get them) were responsible for her actions
- Corrain says she was burning her life down to show it wasn't worth living because they wanted to die and leave themselves with no other option
- Reads with Rachel is sceptical of Corrain's claim that they did not go back to delete the reviews after they realised what they had done in a manic episode because deleting them would require to confront that she didn't have autonomy over their actions
- Corrain says that as Jewish neurodivergent person they seemingly understood and empathized with how much of a professional setback the negative reviews would cost Black authors
- Corrain claims that the targeted have blocked them, but Reads with Rachel shows tweets from Bethany Baptiste (a targeted author) saying she never blocked her
- Reads with Rachel also shows that another Goodreads account review bombed numerous books the day Corrain's people contacted The Daily Beast regarding the article (separate to this an autistic WOC author criticised this interview and had her book review bombed shortly after)
