I struggle with straight men writing love poems - they're always more about the author (Brolin included) and how they're so in love rather than about the subject of the poem. That's fine for poems about being in love, but not ones devoted to a particular subject. Recently I read like 100 poems about "Laura" by Petrarch and do you know what I know about Laura at the end of all these poems? That's she's young and beautiful. Brolin's poem is also about Timmy being young and beautiful. It's the same case with Shakespeare (his sexuality is still questioned but he has the same flaws), Dante, Neruda, Donne, all of them :(

I love poems that about both people in the relationship. One of my favorite love (familial, not romantic) poems is Natalie Diaz Why I Hate Raisins and Andrea Gibson's First Love. I also love Siken's You Are Jeff for a mix of love types poem.

Sorry I have so many feelings about poems, the ones you linked were beautifully written though and very erotic. I'm just always looking for glimpses of the subject's personality and feelings and rarely find them. You only get a tiny glimpse in Diaz's When the Beloved Asks, “What Would You Do If You Woke Up and I Was a Shark?” but it makes it all the more erotic to realize how mutual it all is.

As somebody wise once said "If he writes her a sonnet, he loves her. If he writes her 100 sonnets, he loves writing sonnets".
