overall extremely disappointed so far and supernatural elements aside i can't get over how unnatural everything about this season feels from the writing to the plot to the location. it's not even giving the basic feel of alaska and as someone who lives in a place like this it does not come close to capturing the feeling of remote isolation. filming in iceland was a mistake, should have just done it in BC or alberta.

Idk about it feeling like Alaska or not, as I have never been, but it it feels isolated as hell to me. And the constant nighttime is very disorienting.

I keep going "wait what time of day is it?" and then remembering it's dark all the time lol

mte. I will catch myself thinking "why are they doing so much investigating at night?" and then remember it's probably day for them, or hear them remark about it being 9am or whatever. That would feel so weird to live like that.

to me it feels extremely metropolitan lol but i do give them credit for never actually telling us what time it is, that does make it disorienting

ikr i find the town setting so depressing, i'm always commenting how anyone could live there. The constant nighttime seems so sad and depressing, and it being a remote small town only makes it worse.

i follow a girl on youtube who lives in Svalbard and it's dark from like october until february but she makes it look so cozy

i guess i could see how it could be in the right setting - True Detective always shows all their homes as pretty dark except for like one light on and some Xmas lights, and chilly. I'd have to light my home all the way up and have a nice fireplace going etc, that'd help i suppose

Same. All the initial reviews were like “best since season 1” and “true detective is back” and I just don’t see it. Season 3 was far superior to this one imo. I see Trie Detective as a character drama / introspective foremost rather than a mystery and that seems almost entirely gone this season.

totally. it's like they keep showing me shots of snow swirling in the dark and scenes with very tight lighting and i get what they want me to feel but it's incredibly superficial. there is zero introspection with any of these characters, there is no emotional depth to the aloneness, they just do not connect with the environment they're trying to create

filming in iceland was a mistake

I'm liking and enjoying the season well enough but I agree with this so much. It's a show filmed in Iceland and it feels like a show set in Iceland. For me this feeling came through from the first trailers and it's been disappointing me a bit.
