Hmmm. She has a valid point, but she could have made it without mentioning a particular person. Not cool.

viola davis started this a while back when she was compared to meryl streep after they did doubt together.

in mo'nique's case though, it's an interesting comparison including the fact that one of the reasons mo'nique got "blacklisted"/trashed was over the rumour that her husband was the one destroying her career (when really that was the excuse used by powers that be), and for a couple years there were similar rumblings about melissa mccarthy...except she was still able to put out movies.

Good point! Also in the excerpt in the post, Mo'nique isn't tearing down Melissa McCarthy or badmouthing her. She's just pointing out that they should have had similar career trajectories but Mo'nique was held back because of racism.

A slight tangent but Melissa's film career just baffles me. I thought she was great in Bridesmaids and whenever I've caught her on SNL. But I find her other films unwatchable.

even Spy? It's my favorite movie of hers

I'll try Spy! I think I just got burned watching her other stuff.

And she was so good in that one serious biopic she did! She clearly has the range so why only do unfunny comedies now! Her career is baffling

Exactly, I know she's been good in so many other things, it's annoying that she keeps doing these awful comedies.

most likely she makes more money with those bad movies if she co-writes/produces with her husband

A good number of which were directed by her husband lol

Can You Ever Forgive Me is an excellent movie though. A bit heavy and sad, but she and Richard E Grant are excellent. She should have a much bigger dramatic career tbh.

Good to hear! I'll add it to the list.

I actually prefer her in dramatic roles. If you’ve seen one Melissa McCarthy comedy, you’ve seen them all tbh.
