And he'd do with people even he wasn't romantically interested in I think. Cause I remember when The Osbournes had their show there was a moment where he gifted Kelly a really expensive diamond-filled watch after accidentally tripping her at some event. He was like "you don't wear enough diamonds" and sent her that watch. I don't think she ever implied it went beyond that.
Oh God, this would have completely turned my head as a young woman.
the dads of young daughters treating them to nice things with caption "treating my daughter with the good stuff so she won't be impressed your crusty offerings!"
I feel like i need an example because that just comes off as those dads who view their daughters as property.
No idea about these TikToks and agree that it could swing either way, but the comment immediately made me think of my controlling dad who was quite stingy with me & didn't even want me to buy nice thing with my own money. And then my first boyfriend was someone who treated me to all these things, took me on trips, bought me gifts... I didn't even like him that much tbh, but I guess I was "impressed by the crusty offerings" in stark contrast to feeling somewhat deprived of (non-essential) things at home O_o
Just...just treat them like humans? Teach them to be confident and recognize bad treatment? Talk to them about healthy relationships? Stop being performative and interact with your daughters as equals so that they will expect to be treated as equals...but let's be real, these dads do not see their daughters as full people either.
yea it's like guys who brand themselves as 'girl dads' - it all strikes me as very performative and misogynistic. Just be a dad to your kids the same way, regardless of their sex.
Oh absolutely - it's very...heterosexual people making up problems that wouldn't exist if they could just be normal about gender. The "opposite" sex is not an alien species
( ... )
It's a weird parent trend in general rn. The """""bOy MoM's""""" started it. Basically the same thing.
"teaching my son how to cook so he isn't impressed by your daughter's chef boyardee cooking" and "making sure my son knows that I'm the only woman who will ever love him this much so your daughter can't take him away from me" and other variations of this. Already disparaging little girls who ain't done shit to them or their kid.
The cooking one is so nonsensical to me. Shouldn’t you teach all of your children, regardless of gender, how to cook so that they can be independent adults who know how to take care of themselves?
People shouldn’t be interpreting “basic parenting” as some kind of flex, let alone bragging that it’s going to make a potential partner/spouse less desirable as a result. People like this should not be procreating.
Omg yessss! Why is this cliche of possible “in laws” so common and awful?? I really don’t get it. Just prepare your kids for life no matter what. Social media has confirmed this will never change (since human life won’t last that much more. I’ve had a rough day, I don’t have high expectations on anything)
I saw one reel/tiktok of a mom who was like 'taking my daughter on a trip to Paris so she won't be impressed when some dusty man takes her to Miami' lol the daughter was a teenager and they were just having a good time in Paris, v cute
