What is the significance of the pearl earring in the posters?

pearls were a symbol of purity/a metonym for (female) genitalia back in the day

“In her acclaimed book, Bejewelled: Men And Jewellery In Tudor And Jacobean England, Natasha Awais-Dean writes: “The Chandos portrait, supposedly representing the playwright William Shakespeare, clearly depicts the sitter with a gold hoop earring in his left ear. Contemporary portraiture also shows men such as Sir Francis Drake and Sir Walter Raleigh, figures hardly considered womanly in their conduct, with a single earring. [Sixteenth-century clergyman] William Harrison may have had this in mind when he wrote, 'Some lusty courtiers and also gentlemen of courage do wear either rings of gold, stones, or pearls in their ears.'””

once again, hollywood taking vast liberties and modernizing the shit out of history, which irks me to no end. there's not even a close resemblance to the real George and why leave it there, let's go with that ultra modern haircut so viewers can swoon even more over Galitzine. smh.

well for starters, casting someone that not only resembles the real George (he had red curly hair) but also embodies the beauty standards that were idolized in that period. galitzine is not giving anything other than a calvin klein model (sorry to this man) and seems completely out of place. it's obvious the producers just wanted to capitalize on the red white and royal blue popularity and cast the "heartthrob" of the moment.

He was cast in January 2023, before RWRB came out.
