Mostly made this post because I'd already made myself a list to try and narrow down what to see whenever we get to NYC this spring. It's genuinely crazy having this many things open in such a short timespan - already worried about things closing before they get a chance to thrive simply because there is so much competition! But it's great to see this many folks investing in theater.

Of what's coming to Broadway, I'm probably most interested in Lempicka, Stereophonic, Tommy, Patriots, and Uncle Vanya. I like the song from The Outsiders, though! And I may end up seeing The Great Gatsby mostly because they are the only show doing Thursday matinees. very smart. I'd see everything I could if I was local, but as it stands. I'll probably be able to hit around 1/3 of them.

I'm also really interested in all the Off-Broadway stuff I listed, especially Three Houses (from Dave Malloy!!) and The Lonely Few, which I saw three times in LA and loved.

Last theater I saw was in NYC over the holidays - All the Devils are Here, Purlie Victorious, ( ... )

I’m curious what you thought of Here We Are; I really enjoyed it, though I felt it kinda muddled the themes of Buñuel‘s work. While not a perfect musical, I’m still glad it exists and that I got to experience it.

I saw The Great Gatsby and found it to be a bland adaptation and a ripoff of Baz Luhrmann’s film aesthetics. It might be worth it if you are a big Jeremy Jordan or Eva Noblezada fan though (even though I thought they were both miscast, it didn’t stop the girl next to me from crying throughout the show!)

I'd say the same, though I must confess I was not already familiar with the source material so I was not comparing it to anything. One of the weirder shows I've seen, but that's not a bad thing. Really great cast - I loved Rachel Bay Jones and David Hyde Pierce in particular.

I saw people wanting it to transfer to Broadway, and I just don't know how that would make sense economically, but I am glad they are doing a cast album. I assume it'll have to be pretty dialogue heavy?

And lol, I have only heard bad things about Gatsby so I won't overpay to see it or anything, but I do think Eva's voice is incredible.

I don’t think Broadway was ever in the plans for this show. I remember reading about the creatives discussing why they picked The Shed over a more prominent off-Broadway theater like The Public and it was because they didn't want the expectation that it would/could transfer. This wasn’t confirmed but I suspect it’s why they withdrew from awards consideration as well. It truly felt like a labor of love for all involved. I wish I could have seen it again but i’ll settle for a cast recording.

I'm SO much more intrigued by the Florence Welch Gatsby.

I heard some leak demos and while I’m still uncertain if the story can work as an adaptation, I’m intrigued and it’s a much more interesting score. Plus based on the demos, they are trying to incorporate themes beyond tragic love story which is all the Paper Mill version did.

I think I appreciated the concepts addressed in the play more than I liked the actual execution of the plot/dialogue, but it was overall good! Everyone felt well-cast, and I liked the production design.

The tickets are so expensive, though, I get why you're hesitant. I don't regret going, but I really had to talk myself into buying tickets, and I can see why it'd be a skip for some. We paid full price for rear center orch, and jesus christ, the seats in that theater could not be any closer together.
