i don't want to defend Netflix in any way but nothing he's saying is really adding up!! s3 was put on hold because Fincher was finishing Mank, then netflix released the cast from their contracts a year later because he was busy with other projects. Netflix even sounded excited about the possibility of him revisiting it, according to 9them (via him?) in 5 years or so. And THEN all this stuff about production costs came out.

idk I'm sure there's a truth in the middle here but it sounds like David Fincher wasn't passionate about the material anymore. He clearly has power, even within netflix. I don't buy him reasoning 100% and I think netflix is letting him say whatever he wants because they're already viewed in negative light and there's no point to go against a talented creator on their roster

You're totally correct, he keeps adding stuff when from the start netflix said that they were waiting for him, the actors were tied to the contract until they couldnt wait for him anymore and they let them go to do other things.
The budget thing is true but it's also the fact that he wasnt interested in making a season 3.
It blows my mind how he keeps adding stuff in comparison to the interviews he has been doing for years.

He waited almost an entire year from Netflix's original statement to ever say anything about it. I'm sure they were tied up in negotiations and he was busy. His reasoning sounds flippant and self-victimizing at the same time.

I keep saying - being a Fincher fan is legit torture!!! He's soo goddamn flaky and leaves you hanging at the best (aka worst parts). S3 of Mindhunter was really starting to get good too with the whole BTK thing.... *sigh*

I had become quite used to Netflix leaving us high and dry with their cancellations of popular shows, but this one stung in particular. It was just getting so good!

I didn't know this. He made that bland movie, The Killer, when he could've made a third season of Mindhunter!
