I need Sofia to talk with Greta Gerwig a bit because Greta for a female director has done extremely well for herself as someone that comes from nothing.

Granted Greta's material is a bit more commercial and acessible than Sofia's stuff which I always feel is potentially why her projects get sidestepped in addition to being a female director.

but greta has had noah in her corner for like a decade, she very much does not come from nothing when it comes to her directing career lol

Yeah but Noah Baumbach isn't a big power-player in Hollywood, maybe more in the indie scene. She's arguably bigger and more well-known than him. The power-balance shifted.

Greta even strikes me more as ambitious than him cause his films really are more indie small-scale and personal than hers.

But regardless she clearly hustles cause nothing helps having a door open if you're not gonna move it yourself. She comes from nothing cause Noah wasn't there in the beginning, she had start somewhere with no guarantee which happens before he comes into the picture.

the majority of greta's films have been indie, tbf, and she gained a ton of cred by working with him on greenberg and he's been involved in most of her projects since

i do think she has aspirations beyond baumbach and indie film but their relationship has absolutely helped her lmao

her one directorial project before him was a $15K dollar indie film with joe swanberg that no one saw

She started her film career 3 years before meeting him and her first directorial feature was 2 before she met him. She started from nothing before she met him. Getting help along the way is fine and I got nothing against it but it's a big difference getting help from the very beginning than later along the way.

"her one directorial project before him was a $15K dollar indie film with joe swanberg that no one saw"

Which proves my point that she started from nothing. She worked her way up. Sofia is a Coppola with far more name recognition and connections than Greta. Greta was not born into these connections, she had make them herself but she started at 0 before she got into the game.

The original point to my comment was that Greta has done exceptional well for someone who comes nothing compared to Sofia who comes from something.

You do understand that when I say "comes from nothing" is talking about their families right? Cause I'm pretty positive the Gerwigs are not a well-known film family. Does making connections like with getting Noah help? Yes and we can even add Joe Swanberg in there too but were around at the birth lol?

Sofia on the other hand was in the first Godfather movie when she was a baby. Who had better the connections and a start-up?
